Cleistocactus strausii

Cleistocactus strausii (Snow Pole, Wooly Torch)

is a frost hardy perennial evergreen cactus with red flowers that have an indeterminate flowering season. It grows well in direct sun, and prefers low levels of water. It has high drought tolerance. This cactus has all year round interest.

Soil

Cleistocactus strausii grows in soils ranging from a pH of 6 (acidic ranges from 5.6 to 6) to 8 (slightly alkaline ranges from 7.6 to 8). It is adapted to loamy sand, sandy clay loam and sandy loam soils.

Growth

This is a erect plant has an ultimate height of 2m / 6.6ft and spread of 0.2m / 7.9in.

Leaves

It has green leaves. The texture can be described as soft fine hairs (pubescent).

Exposure

The plant prefers a sheltered situation.

Uses

Conservatory, container plant, drought resistant and gravel.

Propagation techniques include cuttings and seed.
