Phyllostachys aureosulcata var. aureocaulis (Golden-groove bamboo, Yellow stem bamboo, Yellow-groove bamboo)

is a fully hardy perennial evergreen bamboo. It grows well in semi-shade and direct sun, and prefers medium levels of water. It has average drought tolerance. This bamboo has all year round interest.

Can be invasive and the spread of rhizomes must be controlled by means of a root barrier or regular pruning.

Soil

Phyllostachys aureosulcata var. aureocaulis grows in soils ranging from a pH of 6 (acidic ranges from 5.6 to 6) to 8 (slightly alkaline ranges from 7.6 to 8). It is adapted to clay loam, loam, loamy sand, sandy clay loam and sandy loam soils, and prefers high fertility.

Growth

This is a erect plant and has a rhizomatous growth form, and has an ultimate height of 6m / 19.7ft and spread of 3m / 9.8ft. It can take 16-20 years to reach its ultimate height.. The vegetative spread rate is fast.
